Memphis moruus occurs in Central and South America from Costa Rica to Peru and southeastern Brazil. It is found in tropical rainforest, in lowlands and foothills, up to 800 m. This species spends most of its life in the upper canopy, but descends to forest floor to feed on rotting fruit, animal dung or carrion.
